New Genesis X Convertible concept is ready for LA

Genesis has revealed the latest in its line of 'X' concept cars with the X Convertible due to debut at the 2022 LA Motor Show

Genesis continues to mix a fast-emerging line-up of new production models with concepts designed to showcase the Korean luxury brand’s future direction. We’ve already had the X Concept and the X Speedium Coupe, and now the firm has revealed the car that it says “completes the trilogy”, the X Convertible. It’s expected to make its public debut at this week’s Los Angeles Auto Show.

The Genesis X Convertible is seen as a natural evolution of the two-door X Concept, which was unveiled in the Californian city in March 2021. The new creation features a folding hard-top roof but retains several key cues from Genesis’s Athletic Elegance design language. There’s a long bonnet and a short front overhang, along with a long wheelbase and strongly flared wheelarches designed to create a ‘Coke-bottle’ effect when the car is viewed from above.

At the front, the concept features quad LED lights, and it mirrors the treatment of the X Speedium Coupe concept by integrating them into an interpretation of the grille seen on Genesis’s combustion-engined vehicles. There are openings low down in the front bumper for all cooling requirements, but the reduced need for airflow has allowed them to be made smaller.

The rear has an integrated spoiler and quad tail-lights, and the car is finished in a paint colour called Crane White - in effect, a pearlescent white.

The cabin features a four–seat layout with trim in navy and orange, and makes extensive use of recycled wool fabric, as well as conventional leather.

There are no immediate plans for the X Convertible to be put into production, but the firm’s Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke said the car, and its two concept stablemates, would “further propel the brand’s mission to create vehicles with even greater emotional resonance”.
