New Ford Mustang supercharger kit will unleash 800bhp without affecting your warranty
Ford’s Performance Parts department in the USA will boost the new S650 Mustang GT to 800bhp
Ford has revealed a factory-developed supercharger kit for the new Mustang at this year’s SEMA show in Las Vegas. This system comes from Ford’s Performance Parts division, and will produce ‘at least’ 800bhp when fitted to the 5-litre ‘Coyote’ V8 engine as fitted to the GT, with a specific kit for the Dark Horse coming along shortly.
The kit is based around a huge 3-litre Whipple twin-screw supercharger, and comes with all its relevant installation and cooling elements. One of the standard Mustang’s key upgrades is its dual intake system, something that’s been adapted to with a new dual intercooler system to keep engine temperatures under control. There’s also a new oversized heat exchanger and high-flow intercooler pump and an integrated intercooled air-bypass system, and a new 92mm throttle body and 120mm intake system.
With all this extra air being pumped through the engine, the fuel injection system has also been upgraded, with billet aluminium fuel rails and much larger high-flow dual beam fuel injectors. The new hardware is paired with a Tomahawk V2 flash tool with data logging, helping get the most from the supercharger itself.
Ford has not released specific power and torque figures as yet, but is quoting ‘at least’ 800bhp – over 300bhp more than a standard Mustang GT.
Perhaps the most impressive part of the new supercharger kit is that it’s covered under a three-year 36,000-mile warranty, and will work with both the standard six-speed manual or ten-speed automatic transmissions. It’s also been rigorously tested under Ford’s durability standards, and can be installed by any Ford dealer across the USA.
This system is not, however, available for the UK or overseas markets as yet, but will be available in the USA from the beginning of 2024.
