New 2022 Genesis Electrified GV70 priced from £64,405

Order books have opened for the Genesis Electrified GV70, the 483bhp electric SUV designed to take on the Audi e-tron

Genesis has revealed UK pricing and specification details for the Electrified GV70, the firm’s fully-electric SUV which will rival the Audi e-tron and Mercedes EQC. The Electrified GV70 starts from £64,405 and provides 283 miles of range, and customers are able to pre-order now via a refundable deposit.

In the UK, the dual-motor EV is only available in Sport specification, which includes a 14.5-inch infotainment screen, a road-scanning suspension system and an all-weather E-Terrain driving mode.

The Electrified GV70 is also equipped with a 77.4kW battery pack and 350kW rapid charging capability as standard, thanks to the car’s 800V electrical architecture. This enables a 10 to 80 per cent charge time of just 18 minutes.

In addition, customers can choose from eight option packs when ordering their Electrified GV70, bringing extra kit such as a remote smart parking assist, massaging seats, a Lexicon stereo and active noise control to suppress tyre noise.

A panoramic sunroof is also available for £1,460, along with a 3.6kW vehicle-to-load charging function, allowing the user to power external devices with a three-pin plug for an extra £880. Buyers can personalise their GV70 with 15 paint colours, 20-inch alloy wheels (£630) and nappa leather upholstery (£2,350), too.

The GV70 arrives as the brand’s third EV, following the Electrified G80 saloon and GV60 coupe-SUV. Based on the standard GV70 SUV, the Electrified variant receives numerous tweaks aimed at improving efficiency and packaging.

Outside, there's a new front bumper design with a smoother facia, aimed at reducing aerodynamic drag. The lower grilles are integrated more neatly within the bodywork, and without the cooling requirements of a combustion engine, the large Genesis 'crest' grille has been completely closed off, enabling smoother airflow over the front of the car. The grille also incorporates a hidden charging port.

Elsewhere, the electric GV70 is fitted with a new design of 20-inch alloy wheel, and in the absence of a set of tailpipes, Genesis has redesigned the rear bumper for a smoother, cleaner look.

The cabin receives a number of unique design touches, too. The Electrified GV70 is offered with a Glacier White interior, which is trimmed in a variety of ‘eco-friendly materials’. The absence of a traditional gearbox and prop shaft running through the middle of the car has allowed for a lower central tunnel, too.

The Electrified GV70 is offered with a dual-motor four-wheel drive setup. The two motors deliver a combined maximum output of 483bhp and 700Nm of torque when the car’s ‘Boost Mode’ is enabled, propelling the GV70 from 0-62mph in 4.2 seconds.

On the move, the electric GV70 will switch from four to two-wheel drive to maximise efficiency, by decoupling an electric motor and reducing energy losses. The car’s ‘Smart Regenerative Braking System’ analyses driving habits and road conditions to alter the level of energy recuperation, too. Full one-pedal driving is possible, and the Electrified GV70 is also equipped with an E-Terrain driving mode to tackle tricky surfaces.

For improved refinement, noise-cancelling technology has been fitted to reduce tyre roar, which works by using microphones and sensors to project inverted sound waves through the car’s speakers. The GV70’s forward-facing camera and navigation system are also used to analyse upcoming road conditions and prime the suspension to suit.
