Chrysler Ypsilon updated for 2014

Chrysler updates the Ypsilon with new trim levels and styling features, priced from £9,895

The Chrysler Ypsilon has been given a minor mid-life refresh, with the new range now on sale starting at £9,895 and rising to £14,895.

Updates include new entry-level and premium variants, three extra colour schemes, matt or gloss details inside and out, and rebranded trim levels to bring UK models into line with the rest of Europe.

Cheapest cars to insure

Kicking things off is the £9,895 1.2 Silver, which replaces the outgoing S trim. You won’t get any extra equipment, but the seats have been restyled and you can now choose from three additional paint schemes for the bodywork: Marble Grey, Khaki Grey, and Sapphire Blue.

Gloss black or matt dark grey detailing both inside and out is also offered for the grille, wing mirror casings, hub cap centres and dash, while depending on the body paint selected there’s a fruit-themed choice of Coconut, Watermelon or Lime accent colour.

Best city cars to buy

Mid-spec Gold (£10,995 - £13,395) comes in for SE, featuring the same equipment and look, although the 15-inch alloys, air conditioning, electric door mirrors and leather-trim steering wheel are now joined by built-in Blue&Me Bluetooth connectivity as standard.

Top honours go to the new Platinum variant (£12,495 - £14,895), which continues the wedding anniversary pattern and builds on Gold spec to add 16-inch alloys, automatic climate control, full electric windows, cruise control, part leather seats and parking aid technology.

Power will continue to come from a three-strong engine range comprised of two petrol units and one diesel. These are best suited to driver’s looking for efficiency over power – fitted with the five-speed manual, the 69hp 1.2-litre and 85hp 0.9 TwinAir petrol engines manage 55.4mpg and 67.3mpg respectively. The 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel improves on both, offering 95bhp and a claimed 74.3mpg.

Chrysler will be hoping these changes help improve the Ypsilon’s prospects against such competition as the VW Polo and Hyundai i20
